Território e Memória: diretrizes para a requalificação da antiga fábrica Cachoeira, Rio Largo-AL

Abstract

The textile industry has great historical and urbanistic importance in the city of Rio Largo since it was responsible for the beginning of its urbanization and has a built core of heritage value. However, the private domain, the lack of maintenance, and the absence of public policies directed to the factory complex contribute to the weakening of the relation of identity and socio-spatial belonging of the population and the devaluation and degradation of these remnants. The former industrial site has become an idle area and contributes negatively to the qualification of the locality. Added to these facts, is the precariousness of urban equipment and infrastructure of the Gustavo Paiva neighborhood and the constant flooding of the Mundaú River. Therefore, this paper aims to propose guidelines for the requalification of the former Fábrica Cachoeira in the city of Rio Largo/Alagoas that allow the rescue of memories of the textile legacy in the city and the urban reinsertion of this complex in the current context, to contribute to the socio-spatial appropriation and strengthen the belonging, as well as supply the urban need for equipment aimed at culture, recreation, and local trade.
