O enredo romântico no romance Iracema de José de Alencar

Abstract

Romanticism occupied more than half of the nineteenth century and dominantly influenced the literary expression of the time and the decades ahead, either in the form of counterposition or in the contribution of the movement to the literary manifestations of modernity. This research aims to analyze the literary story in the novel Iracema, by José de Alencar. The research justification is established in the idealization of the characters, of Nature and of the aesthetic conduct thought by the romantic writer in the conduction of the narrative. In this way, the research was based on works about the artistic movement and about the story in the romantic narrative, which is established from the idealization, given the aspect of subjectivity and artistic individuality captured by the narrator to build the plot. We also chose to relate the romantic production to other literary expressions of colonial Brazil, such as the Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha, when it deals with the description of indigenous peoples. The research is bibliographical in nature, qualitative and organized in the contraposition of studies on the author and the work over time. The theoretical basis was built from the studies of Roncari (2002), Candido (2020), Bosi (2006), Barbieri (2013), Brait (1985) and D'Onofrio (1990).
