Avaliação do torque de bráquetes estéticos na prescrição Roth

Abstract

Initially, torque was applied to the orthodontic wire using the Edgewise technique. Later, it was incorporated into the bracket, using the Straight-Wire technique. Currently, metallic and aesthetic brackets can be found on the market in various prescriptions, with Roth's being the most used. The present study aimed to analyze whether the torque values of the esthetic brackets of the Roth Technique of two commercial brands are in accordance with the values prescribed by the authors of the technique. A total of 160 esthetic brackets, from the Brazilian brands Morelli and Orthometric, were evaluated using the Torque Real technique, with 0.022" grooves and torque at the base, divided into groups: Morelli Central Incisor, Morelli Lateral Incisor, Orthometric Central Incisor, Orthometric Lateral Incisor, Morelli Upper Canine, Orthometric upper canine, Morelli lower canine and Orthometric lower canine. The pieces were glued on a wooden template, later scanned by Optical Microscopy, and the torque angle analyzed in ImageJ® software. The data were tabulated and compared between them and with the torque values of the Roth prescription and, finally, submitted to statistical analysis. The measured torque values were submitted to the Student t test or the Mann-Whitney test to compare the experimental groups to the Roth prescription values. There were significant differences between the brands and the recommended technique. It is concluded that the brackets analyzed have torque angles different from each other and also different from those recommended by Roth.
