Variação, diversidade linguística e o ensino de língua portuguesa: uma análise da BNCC

Abstract

This study presents an analysis of the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC) document regarding the approach to linguistic variation and diversity in the teaching of Portuguese Language (PL). For that, it aimed to identify the competencies and skills related to linguistic diversity, as well as to discuss the pedagogical implications of these curricular guidelines within the scope of Portuguese Language teaching. For the theoretical framework, we utilized the assumptions of Variationist and Educational Sociolinguistics. This is a qualitative study of the documentary analysis type, conducted on the BNCC document in the area of Languages, more specifically in the part of the Portuguese Language curriculum component (for the stages of Elementary and High School education). The results indicate that the BNCC guidelines for the teaching of Portuguese Language (PL) propose important pedagogical changes by focusing on linguistic variation and diversity, grounded on the assumption that language is a dynamic phenomenon, shaped by social, historical, cultural, geographic factors. By incorporating the study of the phenomenon of linguistic variation, the BNCC guidelines encourage elementary and high school teachers to teach Portuguese language while respecting different linguistic varieties, highlighting the understanding that there is no single “correct” norm, but rather that a range of different uses of the language coexist which are legitimate and must be adapted to different situations of communication and social interaction.
