Maquiagem do preconceito: reflexões sobre o bullying racial na educação básica

Abstract

This undergraduate course completion work sought to investigate how bullying and racism are present in schools and how the two relate to each other in such a way as to make them a single problem. The aim was to analyze their execution tactics, expression and approaches, and based on the idea of carefully investigating the prejudiced manifestations that occur within the school from the students' point of view. This work, through field research, developed a questionnaire with a total of 23 questions, and its data were extremely important for understanding the problem. Therefore, the research was carried out with second-year high school students from a Basic Education school in the city of Água Branca-AL, where the students, through the questionnaire, were able to speak confidently about the topic and express their opinions about the problem. The text includes an analysis of authors such as Bell Hooks, Eliane Cavalleiro, Paulo Freire, Sílvio Almeida, among many others, and specific documents and laws, which provided the necessary understanding for writing this work, which were fundamental to unraveling this problem and truly removing the veil that masks this violence. After this analysis, it was possible to identify the existence of racial bullying and how it is in fact disguised, gaining strength in the school environment through supposedly harmless “games”. It was found that the school offers lectures and seminars in its curriculum aimed at curbing the impact of bullying and racism within its environment, but it is worth noting that this method alone is not enough to solve the problem itself, since the concept of racial bullying is still rarely present in school curricula. It is emphasized here that it is necessary to reinforce pedagogical strategies to prevent the occurrence of new cases of this specific type of violence, taking into account that the school is the common environment for cultural diversity and, consequently, for prejudice and discrimination. It is extremely important that students, managers and teachers become aware of the problem so that it is possible to break the cycle of aggression and thus understand its severity. The relevance of this study lies in the need to gather as much information as possible on the subject, trying to understand its social nature in order to contribute to critical reflections and future research in the area.
