Violência doméstica contra a mulher: patriarcado, o silêncio que mata

Abstract

Faced with a society shaped by private property, patriarchy and monogamy, without radically breaking with this structure, the roles of men and women in the public and private sphere have changed over time, thus creating gender inequality. Violence against women has been present in social relations since the beginning of the history of class society, bringing often fatal consequences. In this context, the silencing of the victim (woman) is one of the factors that harms the fight to end violence against women, as it allows the aggressor not to be discovered or pay for his crimes. In this sense, this work addresses the historical analysis of patriarchy, oppression and violence suffered by women, and addresses the emergence of feminism and its demands aimed at guaranteeing women's rights. Through bibliographical research, making use of the systematic review of available literature, this work aims to present the main concepts that underlie the origin and perpetuation of the aforementioned problem. The contributions of the following authors will be used, among others: Engels (1984; 2019), Saffioti (1976; 1987; 1995; 2015), Hooks (2019), Federici (2019; 2021) and Perrot (2005). The relevance of this study consists in highlighting the importance of combating domestic violence, in promoting academic debate and in providing useful data for professionals in the field regarding the problem, in addition to, mainly, encouraging women to feel free to report their abusers and to seek the necessary help.
