Crianças e atitudes linguísticas: estudo sobre o que pensam discentes do 3º ano do ensino médio de uma escola de Delmiro Gouveia – AL

Abstract

This research presents an investigation about beliefs and linguistic attitudes expressed by students of the 3rd year of High School of the State School Francisca Rosa da Costa, in the city of Delmiro Gouveia - AL. We sought to analyze the manifestations of linguistic beliefs and attitudes in Portuguese language teaching, present in Northeastern students attending the last year of high school. To guide the study, theoretical-methodological principles of Sociolinguistics were used as: LABOV (2008); BORTONI-RICARDO (2004, 2005), of studies on linguistic beliefs and attitudes: SANTOS (1996); SILVA and AGUILERA (2014); COAN and FREITAG (2010). The corpus was collected through a questionnaire (adapted by BARBOSA and CUBA, 2015) with 40 students / informants from the locality, in which the questions were adapted to the sociolinguistic and cultural reality of the community, with specific questions to evaluate the linguistic beliefs and attitudes of the informants in relation to the languages in contact and the Portuguese language. The analysis of the corpus was guided by a qualitative-quantitative approach, since in addition to the quantitative analysis in which the answers were quantified for statistical purposes in the presentation of the results, yielding tables and graphs, the qualitative analyzes the interpretation of the responses of the informants on the issues addressed in the questionnaire. The results indicated, in general, positive beliefs and linguistic attitudes of the informants, but there were also a small number of informants who presented manifestations of linguistic prejudice; to believe in false beliefs, and to evaluate negatively other linguistic varieties. Thus, it is believed that there are still many sociolinguistic works to be developed in the field of linguistic beliefs and attitudes in the educational field.
