“A nova pele da cascavél”: o movimento neoliberal no Brasil e a fundação do Instituto Liberal de Alagoas em 2015

Abstract

This paper seeks to present a history of the liberal movement in Brazil and more specifically its more recent form, neoliberalism. When analyzing the specific conditions in which the first intellectuals and partisans of the liberal ideology in the country began to act in the nineteenth century, the particular characteristics that this sector will assume in relation to its European and North American matrices without losing the fundamentals which configure it as such. From this historical, the most recent expression of the liberal ideology, neoliberalism, its theoretical bases and its consolidation as movement in Brazil and in the world from the years of 1980 is presented from a wide network of Think Tanks of acting that formulate and disseminate liberal-oriented analyzes and policies. With the transformations that Brazilian political and social reality has undergone during the last years, a new wave of neoliberal organizations emerged during the decade of 2010. In this context, the foundation of the Liberal Institute of Alagoas (ILA), the first liberal organization to act in the state beyond parliamentary politics.
