A concordância verbal na fala do coruripense: uma análise sociolinguística variacionista

Abstract

In this text, we present the results of the study on the verbal agreement in the language spoken in the municipality of Coruripe, located in the inland side of Alagoas, south of the state, at a distance of 85km from the capital of Alagoas, Maceió. The study aims to analyze the pattern of verbal agreement, based on data produced by the inhabitants of Coruripe, observing that there are linguistic and extralinguistic variables conditioning the variation. The analysis is constructed under the theoretical-methodological framework of Variationist Sociolinguistics, whose presupposition is that of all language are inherently heterogeneous, being this heterogeneity amenable to systematization, based on the combination of linguistic and social factors. Moreover, another assumption of the model, which guided our analyzes and interpretations, is that language is the socio-cultural portrait of a community, thus reflecting the identity of its members. In order to carry out the research, 36 informants were stratified according to sex (male and female), schooling (elementary, middle and high school) and age group (young, adult and elderly). The study controlled the linguistic variables position of the subject in relation to the verb, distance of the subject in relation to the verb and phonemic salience and the social variables gender, schooling and age group. The results correspond to the statistical analysis performed through the use of the Goldvarb X program, from which it was possible to obtain the percentage numbers and relative weights of the interference of the variables in the conditioning of the verbal agreement. The analysis and results presented here point to a variation in the phenomenon of verbal agreement in the language spoken in the municipality of Coruripe, being an extralinguistic factor schooling the most significant in the conditioning of the variation, then we have the phonic salience, subject position and age range, also selected as significant by the computer program.
