Da sutura, o refazimento: a arte de Rosana Paulino como caminho para uma etnografia do corpo

Abstract

In this research, I take a path of getting to know the visual artist Rosana Paulino and her works, exploring her artistic and intellectual practice as a Black woman who emphasizes this position in her creations. Centering the body of the Black woman as the foundation of investigation in the image, this work aims to observe the construction of a Black woman's body that positions itself as a subject, presented within perspectives such as Black feminism, memory, and the formation of the body. The methodological approach was guided by the curation of the works "Assentamento" and "Búfala," which I analyzed within the presented themes, as well as the curation of works by three other artists — Marcelo D'Salete, Renata Felinto, and Joana Choumali — and their narratives, which involve processes of understanding this subject, either closely or within the same axes addressed by Paulino’s works. The selection of music that dialogues with these pieces also guided the analyses to be carried out, and I was able, through my own narrative in selecting five drawings I produced throughout the study, to engage in dialogue with the curated works. Ultimately, I came to understand that textuality, as a set of imagistic narratives that delve into knowing and making known the body of the Black woman, also contributes to its construction.
