A toponímia rural de Glória - Bahia

Abstract

In this research, we describe and analyze toponyms of rural communities in the municipality of Glória, Bahia, a riverside area in the backlands of Bahia. Bearing in mind that the toponymic corpus can help us understand the socio-historical and cultural context, relating it to the language and the historical events of this city, which has gone through two floods since its foundation and little is said about the remains in linguistic and sociocultural formation of its people. The 81 names that make up the toponymic corpus were collected through the review of bibliographic materials by the document from the municipal secretariat of agriculture and environment, provided by the city hall in the year 2023 as shown in figure 6. Therefore, the research and appendix A are exclusively bibliographical. For toponymic analysis we used the assumptions found in Dick (1990, 1992), the data were stored in a lexicographic-toponymic table and are in the bibliographic appendix according to the adapted model proposed in Dick (2004), and in it we discuss the onomastic and lexical process, also motivational aspects found in the act of naming with emphasis on categories of a physical nature: Geomorphotoponyms which account for 33.3% of the names, and Hydro Toponyms which account for 31.3% of the names.
