Correlação entre zumbido e disfunção tempromandibular : revisão integrativa

Abstract

The presence of orofacial pain and tinnitus is becoming more and more frequent in the routine of dentists, since patients with a history of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction tend to have a higher risk of tinnitus. Tinnitus is an otological symptom, which can be defined as the subjective perception of a sound without an external sound source, presenting multiple etiological factors, including anatomical, functional and emotional factors. Since tinnitus and TMD are considered psychosomatic syndromes, both are influenced by psychological disorders, depression and anxiety. Therefore, emotional factors associated with these pathologies significantly interfere in the quality of life of patients, due to the subjectivity of symptoms and the multifactorial nature, where treatment must be individualized to obtain better results. Thus, the objective of this study was to review the literature in a narrative way in order to highlight the fundamental importance of the dental surgeon in establishing, if any, the correlation between such symptoms, helping in the treatment of TMD and, consequently, improving the tinnitus complaint and the individual's quality of life. It was concluded that there is a positive correlation between tinnitus and TMD and that affected individuals suffer from a worsening in their quality of life. Thus, the dental surgeon is essential in the differential diagnosis and treatment in the interdisciplinary team.
