O vivido pelo familiar do paciente com covid-19 longa, internado na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva

Abstract

Introduction: During the COVID-19 epidemic, patients who lasted longer with the most severe disease depended entirely on intensive care, making the experience of their families complex, which was exacerbated by organizational changes imposed in the hospital environment with the need for social isolation.Objective: to unveil the phenomenon experienced by the family member of the patient with long-term COVID-19, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Methodology: This is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach in accordance with scientific coherence and based on existential phenomenology, with a philosophical theoretical interpretation by Martin Heidegger. Composed of eight participants, who were interviewed, through the phenomenological interview, during the period from November 2021 to April 2022. Whose family members had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital. The testimonies were analyzed qualitatively, according to the perspective of Heidegger's phenomenology, discussed with literature related to the topic. Results: The study revealed the phenomenon veiled in the experience of the relative of the patient hospitalized in the intensive care unit with long-term COVID-19, through the existence of Martin Heidegger: Being-in-the-world familiar of the patient hospitalized in the ICU with long-term COVID-19; The family member experiences anguish when recognizing that the Being is a being-toward-death;The relative of the patient hospitalized with COVID-19 for a long time, transcending the possibility of death-of-the- other. Conclusion: Through the present study, it was possible to bring to light the depth of the meanings that family members attributed their experiences of living in an unknown context provided by the pandemic, permeated with several complex, intense and difficult feelings to overcome, but which allowed these family members to glimpse the possibility of finding their authenticity and having a new look at human existence.
