Produção de sentidos no discurso de posse do Presidente Lula (2023)

Abstract

This undergraduate thesis in Portuguese Language and Literature investigates President Lula's 2023 inauguration speech through the lens of Discourse Analysis (DA), as this discursive approach reveals crucial aspects of the dynamics of power and the construction of meaning present in such political events. The study focuses on the power-knowledge mechanisms operating within the speech, the underlying power relations, and the discursive strategies used to persuade and mobilize the audience. The objectives are: to conduct an in-depth analysis of the presidential inauguration speech; to identify the power-knowledge mechanisms within the discourse; and to understand how the discourse reflects and reproduces power relations in society. The findings reveal the discursive strategies employed by President Lula in his inaugural address, the identification of underlying power relations, and the persuasive tactics used. The research concludes that the presidential discourse is a space for the contestation and legitimation of power. In summary, this study offers a multifaceted view of the dynamics of power and the historical and social contexts that shape presidential inauguration speeches.
