A Literatura de Cordel no Ensino de Língua Inglesa: uma proposta pedagógica

Abstract

This paper has as its central topic Cordel Literature and language teaching, focusing on English Language classes. The idea came up during my period of supervised internship, where the conducting teacher worked with the students in an intercultural way, translating and presenting cordels. It is a qualitative research of bibliographic nature that involves examples of didactic sequences (BUTT, 2006) to be applied in the 9th grade classes of elementary school. The theoretical studies were based mainly on Helder Pinheiro (2008), Falci (2006), Queiroz (2006), Hall (2005), Lima (2009), Almeida Filho (1998), and a piece of information extracted from official documents as National Curricular Parameters (NCP) and the Common National Curricular Base (BNCC). The work includes the following questions: What are the possible contributions of cultural studies to learning English? 2) What is the paper of Cordel Literature in the classroom? and 3) What would be a proposal for an English language class with the practice of cordels as a structuring element? The answers lead us to an accurate understanding of how the English language class is a favorable moment for the teacher to put his students in contact with other languages and cultures.Thus, in addition to reaching the specific objectives proposed, the research reached the general objective of this work, which was to understand how Cordel Literature has an intercultural role within the English language classroom, also emphasizing the representations of women present in the cordels, thus valuing not only the Northeastern Brazilian culture but also the role of women in society. By making a link between theory and planning, this work intends to collaborate for more meaningful classes in the teaching of English in the context of interculturality, aiming at new teaching proposals that value and encourage other fields of reading and interpretation, mainly social.
