Relações de gênero para além da muralha: o empoderamento feminino na série televisiva Game of Thrones, na representação da mulher medieval entre séculos XI ao XIII

Abstract

The work presented here seeks to explain the characteristics and similarities of women in the Middle Ages (between the 11th and 13th centuries) and contemporary women through the television series Game Of Thrones. For this, a comparative analysis was performed between each period and scenario of the series, thus enabling the identification of important points of the feminist movement, as well as identifying female empowerment as a key point for linking these three strands discussed throughout the research. Thus, we also analyze issues of violence against women, how this violence is portrayed in the media and how it is viewed by Brazilian society. Therefore, it was necessary to clarify the patriarchy and its roots and aspects, which still exist in contemporary times, and how patriarchy is still an obstacle to be overcome by all society, especially women. Therefore, the work brings the medieval period as the propelling basis of the discussion (since the scenario of the Game Of Thrones series takes place in a period with social, political, religious and economic characteristics similar to the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries), having as central themes the feminine empowerment of the characters highlighted here (Arya and Sansa Stark, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen), referring to the feminist struggles and achievements of our reality.
