Abstract

The neighborhood as a locus of social and symbolic practices contribute to the strengthening of affective ties present in the man and place. According, this discussion seek to contribute to the understanding of identity, from the social and symbolic inherent in the place which the man appears as the main subject. For this purpose, this research found to be analyzed, the neighborhood of Pontal da Barra, neck of land between the pond Mundaú and the Atlantic Ocean, is located southwest of Maceió, in the Estuarine-Lagoon Mundaú Manguaba, located in the sandy coastal capital of Alagoas. This neighborhood is set as the main element for understanding the formation and characterization of identity considering not only the physical peculiarities of a district, but also the values in context impregnated city and especially those that refer to symbolic and historical relations. It stated that all findings made in this study had the methodological contributions to oral history, for being a tool to encourage the transmission of values through the feelings and views the individual absorbs the world. The debates were directed to the key features and elements that worked / work in the design and dynamics of Pontal da Barra improving the identity and emphasized in the reports and the perception of individuals: the residents - whereas the elderly residents at the site (by addressing the experiences as source of enrichment of contemporary relationships), its history and its social life. Before any analysis performed to expose the identity of the neighborhood was characterized by the presence of strong affective ties, relations with the landscape, and in the production of social space and history even with the inclusion of new meanings and values.
